Hell On Earth

7/16/13, by Clement Pulaski

Christ...loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:25-27

In the age to come, the Church—redeemed humanity—will, as the Bible says, be spotless and pure. When looking at the earthly Church at any historical period, it is easy to see that many of its visible members fall short of this purity. The apostles themselves were imperfect, sinful men, whose errors of thought and conduct are recorded in Scripture. But despite this impurity in the hearts of Christians, the visible Church is a sign of things to come, an earthly foreshadowing of the Kingdom of God. Though struggling with sin, the Church has still provided the world with countless examples of Gospel living. Men outside of the visible Church can perform good acts, but within the Church there is a special goodness, the goodness of the Holy Spirit that is granted through faith.

Outside of the Church, the world is rife with unrepentant sinners, and while all men are sinful, among the unbelievers there is one nation that exhibits especial wickedness—the nation of the Jews. Unlike any other race, the Jews define themselves by their loyalty to the Pharisees who murdered Christ. The greatest crime in history is the essence of the Jewish nation, and therefore it is no wonder that Jesus says that the Jews who reject Him are children of hell (Matthew 23:15) who will receive worse punishment than the men of Sodom (Matthew 11:24).

Many Christian have held that the miserable state of the Jews throughout history is the result of God's punishment, and their misery serves as a visible sign to Christians of God's power. In addition to this teaching, I propose that the Jewish nation can be seen as an earthly foreshadowing of hell, just as the Church is an earthly foreshadowing of the Kingdom. The humility and love of the earnest Christian is contrasted with the spiritual pride and avarice of the Jew. Christians teach chastity, while Jews spread sexual perversion. The Christian desires the straight and narrow path to Truth, while the Jew concocts a dark and twisted pseudo-intellectuality, from which comes forth the Talmud , Marx, Freud, and countless other Jewish poisons. Far from being brothers, the Christian and the Jew are as different as day and night. To look at the Jew, his soul and his culture, his utter blindness and stubbornness, is to look at hell on earth.
